Artist Statement

This year in photo I've worked on stepping outside of my box by imitating other artists. Duane Michals, Evyn Morgan, and other artists all inspired me to try different things like blurry images, photosets, abstract ideas, and collages. In my photography overall, I started to stray farther away from taking pictures of my dogs and focusing more on telling a story like in my prints "Judgement" and "Offering to the Gnome God". Even if my prints don't tell a story, I still want my audience to feel something. I want them to have a reason to look at my work a second longer than they would've looked at my Photo Two prints so that they see the things there that are hard to see with just a glance. By imitating other artists, I find exactly what makes me really look at their work and apply it to my own, in whatever way I can find, and, in a way, its helping me to discover my own style.
